Comes now the story . . .

. . . of a tenured teacher in a local school district who has served jail time for violating a court order and, more disturbingly, has been disciplined for improper relationships with both students and administrators.   When called on the carpet, the woman admitted her transgressions and was tossed into the bureaucratic process designed to remove the ineffective from the public schools.   That process has, to date, removed no one.   The state teachers' union and an arbitrator have jumped to her defense stating that it is up to us to ensure she is reformed so she can be placed back in and amongst the students.   Termination is not an option.   After some thought, I absolutely agree.  Why bother terminating this person from her occupation?   It no longer makes a difference whether or not you can swim once you have been swept over Niagara Falls.   With your head bashed on the rocks below and your lifeless corpse swirling in an eddy, what's the point knowing how to tread water?

Such is the fate of a nation that racks up $15 trillion in debt and, after a few weeks of having outrage voiced in the papers, turns to other and more salacious stories.  All the while, we rack up another $1 trillion in debt.

Evil lurks when good men and women turn their backs.   Good men and women haven't simply turned their backs, they've taken to spaceships and left the solar system.    A distracted and apathetic citizenry is led by a cabal interested only in protecting its regime.   Cemented in place by decades of diligence, it is set in concrete and impossible to dislodge by conventional means.   Its proboscis dangles into our lives and sucks incessantly.   As we prosper, so does the cabal.  But, no reservoir is unfathomable, no resource unlimited.   It will end, sooner than later, I think.  And not be the measured hand of a well governed people but by sudden and catastrophic collapse.
