Salton Stench

The Salton Sea

We take for granted the large bodies of fresh water we enjoy in our region of the country. It takes instances like this to remind us how lucky we are. The largest lake in California, the Salton Sea, is not even natural and was created by
accident when a dam burst on the Colorado River over a century ago and flooded a valley at lower elevation. It is in the desert and slowly evaporating and, as the article explains, sometimes noticed for some rather unpleasant things.
